| DGP for strengthening police communication network | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 19: Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda has said that a massive communication network project has been put in place for providing state-of-the-art telecommunication facilities to the Police Organization across the State. The DGP was reviewing the status of the communication network project of the State Police Organization at a meeting here today. He said that in the present age of science and technology, communication is an essential tool for better functioning of any organization and keeping this in view, a video conferencing facility between the Police Headquarters at Jammu and Srinagar and all the District Headquarters has been launched in the first instance. He added that this facility will supplement the efforts of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking System that has been launched by the Union Home Ministry last year. He said that efforts are on to extend video-conferencing facility with the Police Headquarters of neighbouring states in a phased manner for sharing the data. Khoda said that CCTVs have enabled the State Police to both prevent and detect crimes in the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu and in the next three months, all the major towns of the State will come under effective surveillance through CCTVs. The DGP said that to fully equip the department for further improving its functioning, special training programmes are being organized for its personnel in modern techniques of law and order management in all the police training institutions in the State. He said that procuring non-lethal crowd dispersal equipments, improvement in investigation skills and up-gradation of forensic laboratories are the part of this initiative. Khoda said that bomb detection and disposal squads have been up-graded, X-Ray scanners provided at vital installations, anti-sabotage teams equipped with the latest gadgetry and 2 mbps lease line connectivity established at all the District, Range and Zonal Headquarters with Police Headquarters for online transfer and sharing of data.He stressed the meeting to lay more focus on up-gradation of intelligence gathering mechanism and creation of Commando Training facilities for jawans and officers.
