| INSPIRE Summer Camp inaugurated at SMVDU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATRA, Apr 19: An innovative programme of Department of Science & Technology to attract young minds to the study of science, a Govt. of India sponsored Science Internship Camp: Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), was inaugurated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). The camp was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof RNK Bamezai who was chief guest on the occasion. Three hundred and fifty students from forty three schools of J&K are privileged to be a part of this Science Internship Summer Camp which is meant for the top performers in class 10th board examination, who are presently pursuing science in XI and XII standard. During the INSPIRE Camp the students will be exposed to a series of lectures and interactions with distinguished academicians and scientist to quench their academic thirst. The programme kicked off with the inaugural lecture on "What Unifies Biology" by Prof Bamezai, an eminent scientist in the field of Human Genetics and Genomics who has pioneering work in genetic susceptibility to complex diseases and rarer syndrome. In his inaugural address Prof Bamezai highlighted the significance of DNA in evolutionary aspects and the complexity of genome. Moreover, Prof Bamezai expressed his concern for the late bloomers too, who in his opinion also need to be fostered for the progress of country. Speaking on the occasion other resource persons, Prof DVS Jain, Emeritus Professor from Punjab University highlighted the significance of scientific research in social perspective. Other resource persons, Prof AK Grover, Sr. professor from the department of Condensed Mater Physics & MS, TIFR, Mumbai gave an overview of contemporary pristine physics issues in magnetism. Prof RJH Gill, a renowned name in the field of Mathematics from Punjab University talked about the opportunities available in the present world for young minds which should be tapped appropriately by them. In his welcome address, Dr SK Wanchoo, Organizing Coordinator INSPIRE thanked all the students of SMVDU who worked tirelessly for organizing such a mammoth event with three hundred and fifty students from 11 districts of J&K and thirty eminent resource persons from different parts of country. An enthralling evening of dance and music was also organized for the participants.
