| Lecture on "Buddhism and Social Transformation: An Ambedkarite Perspective" held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 19: Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, University of Jammu today organized a special lecture on "Buddhism and Social Transformation: An Ambedkarite Perspective" a noted figure of the Budhist world Dhammachari Lokamitra at Seminar Hall of Political Science Department, JU. The programme was presided over by Dean Social Sciences, JU Prof. I.V.Malhan Lokamitra spoke about the prevalence in inequality and discrimination in the world history and the relevance of Buddhist movement in this direction. He emphasized the emergence of Buddhism as the epoch-making for the social concern. He highlighted how the western world turns towards India against the crisis out of Christianity and other prominent religion. Speaking about the relevance of Ambedkar concerning Buddhism, he narrated how he talked about humanist Buddhism against the monk Buddhism. He also highlighted the role of Ambedkar and Buddhism in retaining the dignity of weaker sections of Indian society. He narrated it as a battle for reclamation of human personality. He emphasized upon change in attitude towards men through morality, liberty, equality, fraternity and Compassion. In his presidential remark, Prof. Malhan emphasized how the realism of faith play crucial role in regulation and transformation of social order. To him Buddhism is realization through practices as seen in country like China, Japan, Sri lanka and others. He appreciated the activities and the achievements of the Ambedkar centre. Prof. Labh, Head Dept. of Buddhist Studies was the Discussant on the event. In his remarks, Prof. B.N.Labh shared the crucial comments on the lecture and the difference between Gandhi and Ambedkar regarding societal change. Dr. Ashish Saxena, Director, Ambedkar Studies Centre in his welcome address introduce the dignitaries and about the functioning of the centre. Roopali Sharma conducted the proceedings of the function and Dr. Suresh Babu presented the vote of thanks. Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included Prof. Kulwant Kaur, Prof. Baljit Singh, Prof. Karuna, Prof. Tajuddin, Dr. Devinder, Dr. Mathew, students, members of Ladakhi community; civil society and Dalit activists.
