| Workshop on Capacity Building of Women Managers begin | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 19: In a bid to create awareness and sensitivity on the role of women in higher education institutions, Centre for Adult, Continuing Education & Extension (CACEE), University of Jammu has organized a University Grants Commission (UGC) sponsored 6-day long workshop for Training of Trainees on Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education. The workshop, which began today, was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof Varun Sahni. In all, 29 participants from Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the workshop. Prof Susheela Kaushik, Co-Chairperson, National Consultative Committee for UGC's Capacity Building of Women Managers in Higher Education addressing the gathering, Prof Susheela Kaushik introduced the basic theme of the programme and reinforced the need for women entering managerial positions in higher education in order to transform higher education and infuse a gender perspective into policies. Prof Poonam Dhawan, Regional Coordinator and Director, CACEE, Jammu University stated that it is necessary through training to create a critical mass of academicians who are highly motivated to move to senior positions. "The objective of the workshop to bring more trained women managers in higher educational institutions to ensure women participation in decision-making levels, though they are equally competent in leadership, management or policy-making spheres", said Prof Dhawan Core Group Resource Person Prof Pam Rajput and Member National Consultative Committee, UGC Helen Josph were also present in the inaugural session of workshop.
