| Cong High Command ‘mum’ on deepening factionalism? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 19: Is Congress High Command ‘blissfully ignorant’ or has deliberately insulated itself from the deepening factionalism the party in the J&K state is enveloped in which is now fast taking the picture of crisis in the organization?
The answer to these queries being raised by everyone – from common masses who are ardent supporters of the party to even the workers at grass root level who find themselves divided in rival camps, is simply no. The Central leadership is well aware of all the developments which take a different turn each time when the leaders and loyalists of the two camps hold separate meetings and functions and even come out with venomous statements against each other.
The party high command, according to well placed sources are quite aware of the fact that the loyalists of both the groups have lately started challenging each other’s credibility in the name and pre text of demonstrating as to which group is actually a genuine Congress group. The war of words on this account reached a flashpoint only two days back when the loyalists of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad camp left no adjective unmentioned in the strongly worded criticism against RS Chib, minister in the coalition government for his statement against Azad faction. Even though the senior leaders of both the camps have been airing complaints against each other and even seeking SOS from Delhi in certain matters, the party high command surprisingly is not uttering a single word and giving any indication that would show its inclination towards any of the two factions in J&K. Sources said the central leadership is deliberately avoiding that even as the present crisis is gradually having telling impact on the organizational discipline in both the regions. The high command is certainly watching everything and taking note of the utterances from both the camps but is not so keen on ‘changing’ the scene in any respect, rather interested in keeping status quo as far as organizational affairs are concerned, sources said.
Though the cry from each group against each other’s credibility is getting loud by the day, the high command does not deem it proper to ‘intervene’ in any manner that will amount to taking affront , reliable sources said adding that high command is well aware of the fact that both the groups have senior leaders on board who have polictial potential and wield influence in respective areas which cumulatively go to the benefit of the party as a whole in terms of making it strong across the state. Since the leaders of both the factions swear in the name of party and high command and in all the functions or statements display their unflinching loyalty towards the central leadership, it suits the party as long as they toe this line and make relentless efforts to consolidate party at grass root levels.
Sources also attribute high command’s apparent disinclination towards the pressing demand from rival camp to remove Prof Saif-u-Din Soz as president of J&K PCC to the fact that his tuning with main alliance partner NC is comparatively better and acceptance at the highest level more than anyone else in the scene. Soz over the years of his association with the party has managed to get a lobby of senior leaders in Delhi. Well this is true for other stalwart Azad too whose say and influence is explicit on many facets. Yet it is Prof Soz, who despite waning popularity in Kashmir Congress in particular, who is still bearing the fruit of just one political move which enabled Congress stage ‘victory’ against rival BJP years back.
