| School sans classrooms at Nadiwala | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 20: "Sans classrooms; sans everything." This is what the students of higher secondary school at Nadiwala in Akhnoor feel. As the school does not have the requisite number of classrooms, most of the students are forced to sit in the open under the shade of trees in this scorching heat. The school has a strength of over 600 students, most of whom hail from remote areas of Nadiwala. The school, which needed at least 10 more classrooms, lacked infrastructure required to run a school in an efficient manner, he added. Activists of Viklang Shastra Trust said the school was upgraded from high to higher secondary level with the efforts of local MLA and minister Sham Lal Sharma about two years back. Though Sham had that time announced that 10 more classrooms would be constructed for the students, nothing had been done in this regard so far, he added. In the absence of classrooms for them, most of the students were faced with hardships, he added. Some locals, including Kuldip Kumar, Sudershan and Rajinder Singh, urged Sham to take immediate steps to ensure the construction of 10 additional classrooms in the school. They also demanded the personal intervention of chief minister Omar Abdullah and education minister Peerzada to release special funds for the purpose. Sham ought to come true to his commitment made in this regard during elections, they added.
