4/20/2010 11:52:28 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
RAJOURI, Apr 20: Launching a scathing attack on Kashmiri and Jammu leaders, State President of Samajwadi Party Sheikh Abdul Rehman has said that leaders of these capital cities are sipping the blood of people of Chenab Valley and Rajouri-Poonch areas.
He also made a call to constitute coordination committee for union of Chenab Valley region and Poonch-Rajouri beside demanding hill council status for twin border districts. Addressing party function in Rajouri, Sheikh Abdul Rehman said that Chenab Valley region and Poonch- Rajouri areas are at "&" between Jammu "&" Kashmir and the aspirations of the people living in these areas are neither being attended by Jammu based political leaders nor Valley politicians are coming forward to redress their problems. Rehman said that he is already struggling from many decades for grant of Chenab Valley Hill Council status to Chenab Valley region and he will also back Poonch-Rajouri people in getting this status granted to them. "Let Rajouri-Poonch and Chenab Valley people come closer under a coordination committee platform", he said adding that he has already negotiated with some social and political leaders of Rajouri and Poonch and Pir Panjal Development Council leaders at Jammu regarding framing a coordination committee and fighting together for their rights. "Our aspirations are almost same. Chenab Valley, Rajouri and Poonch are equally discriminated by the Jammu politicians", he said adding "People of Jammu and Srinagar have no reason to decide our fate. "How man in the air-conditioned rooms at Jammu or posh colonies of Kashmir know the ground realities of Chenab Valley region and Poonch-Rajouri area", Sheikh said adding "there is discrimination with this part of the state from across the Jawahar Tunnel. "We are lagging behind from all fronts and the maximum share of the Jammu province goes to 4 districts ignoring the remaining", he said and added "Jammu is not Jammu, Samba, Kathua & Udhampur but there are Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts also whose people are not being taken into confidence while deciding the distribution of funds". He added that Centre provided Central University for Jammu province not for 2 districts. Criticizing the coalition government, Sheikh said that government is not serious to strengthen the basic democratic institutions and that is why elections of Panchayats have been delayed. He also announced a new concept -United Peoples Front - for working non-party basis in the election of basic democratic institutions. "This front will support only honest candidates and will launch campaign against those who have blotted record", he said adding that these elections must be conducted on non party lines. "I have written a letter to other like minded politicians to be the part of United Peoples Front", he added.
