| JJSF protests increase of fee structure for PG courses | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 20: Jammu University's decision to enhance fee structure for various post graduate, professional and Ph.D courses may snowball into a big controversy with student unions expressing their resentment over the move. In this series, the activists of Jammu Joint Students' Federation (JJSF) today staged a protest against university authorities for increasing the fees of Ph.D and other professional courses. The activists assembled opposite GGM Science College, Jammu at canal road and shouted slogans against the authorities. The protest was led by Partap Singh Jamwal, state vice president JJSF who demanded that the authorities should not increase fee for PG courses, besides retaining the fee for Ph.D and Professional courses as earlier. "It would put extra burden on the students and their families as the students belonging to financially weak cannot afford to pursue higher education. The authorities should reconsider their decision of increasing the fee structure," Partap said. He questioned, "Why the authorities increase the fees of Ph.D courses up to Rs 2100? Why they are going to increase the fee for profession and PG courses? There is no logic behind increase in fee structure." Later, the protestors also burnt the effigy of the Vice Chancellor University of Jammu and demanded immediate roll back of the decision. They also warned if the fee structure of PG courses is hiked, they would further intensify their agitation. The student leaders who took part in the protest included Sanjay Sharma, Rahil Rajput, Arun Jamwal, Anil Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Varun Sadotra, Raman Choudhary, Sahil Sharma, Thakur Shivdev Singh, Lovely Gupta, Ashwani Sharma, Sahil Choudhary, Dushant Kumar and Abhay Sharma.
