| DSS felicitate winners of Dogra turban tying competition | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 20: The winners of dogra turban tying competition held on January 3, 2010 were felicitated by the J&K dogra sadar sabha (DSS) at a function held here today. The function was presided over by the president DSS Th. Gulchain Singh Charak. The function was attended by large number of people from all walks of life representing rural and urban areas of the province. On the occasion speakers highlighted the problems concerning the people of the region, specially the scarcity of drinking water and serious draught conditions. Beside sabha also resolved to observe 'Save the bird day' on 1st May, to highlight the plight of the birds due to draught the acute shortage of water specially in Kandi areas where the birds and animals are dying. Sabha has decided to start an progamme to provide earthen parts on various places within the radius of 3 to 5 kilometer from the habitation. It shall cover the areas from Kalidhar to river Ravi. Local volunteers shall be entrusted with the job of filling these earthen pots with water daily till the start of rainy seasons. Beside this sabha showed its serious concern for not organizing Jammu festival which was a pride of Jammu since 1994. It has resolved to demand that the Jammu festival should be started again as per the previous practice on the baisakhi festival. DSS has also showed its serious concern for playing with the religious sentiments of the public by selling the stands from the 'Devika' Gupt Ganga where the public perform cremation and rituals. DSS demands immediately stop carrying sands from the Gupt Ganga by some elements.
