| Bhalla for curbing menace of illegal occupation on EP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 20: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today reviewed the functioning of the Evacuee Property Department at a meeting of officers held, here this afternoon. Secretary, Revenue, Ejaz Iqbal, Custodian General, Abdul Latief Deva and other senior officers of Revenue, R&B and Custodian departments were present in the meeting. The issues which were discussed in the meeting included proposed projects like construction of multipurpose community hall at Wazarat Road, Jammu, Oriental shopping mall at Chand Nagar, Jammu, construction of residential flats at Anand Nagar, Dhamwal, Jammu, construction of Community Centre at Udhaywala, Jammu, construction of sixty duplex houses comprising of 240 units at Brain and Nishat in Kashmir and construction of office-cum-shopping complex at Hyderpura on available Evacuee land. The meeting also discussed various measures for management and preservation of Evacuee Property (EP) in the State. Bhalla called for a comprehensive blue print for conducting repairs of EP houses and structures. He called for effective measures to curb the menace of illegal occupation on EP adding that a pragmatic policy needs to be put in place immediately with regard to allotment of EP land and structures under illegal occupation. The Minister said that premium shall be charged after taking into consideration the use and market rate prevalent in the locality where the EP is situated. He said that the allotments shall be made for a period of 20 years in the first instance for residential purposes and 40 years for commercial purposes. Bhalla said that the premium in respect of the EP used by the illegal occupants for commercial purposes shall be determined on the basis of potential value of the land.
