| Militant manages to escape from encounter site | | Militants kidnap four VDC members, two released, weapons snatched | | JAMMU OCT-14- A group of militants kidnapped four Village Defence Committee (VDCs) Members from village Tandu Ganttr in Doda and snatched their service rifles while a militant managed to escape from the encounter site in Sangaldan area of Ramban. A police spokesman said that of the four VDC members kidnapped with their service rifles, two were later released without weapons. The released VDC members have been identified as Shadi Lal and Ram Lal while the two others who are still kept hostage by the militants are Ghulam Mohammed Bhat and Ghulam Hassan Dar. In the meantime, a Defence spokesman said that Army has launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the militants and get the hostages released. The operation was in progress when reports last came in. The sources said that acting on specific information about the presence of militants in Ashmar area of Sangaldan Ramban, a joint party of STF Sangaldan and Ramban launched a search operation in the area. After establishing contact with the hiding militant, the security forces were fired upon which was effectively replied. The encounter lasted for nearly two hours, however, the militant managed to flee from the spot. During the search operation, the forces recovered one AK 47 rifle along with a magazine and 20 rounds from the site of encounter. The forces have launched a search operation in the entire area to trace out the escaped militant.
