Frustrated forces trying to float obnoxious ideas: Sagar

UDHAMPUR, Apr 21: Terming the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) as a boon for the socio-economic transformation of rural masses, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar has exhorted upon the officers of Rural Development Department to ensure percolation of benefits of the scheme at gross root level for the larger interest of poor sections of the society.
The Minister was addressing a well attended gathering after inaugurating the Model Village Garnai in Block Udhampur, today established at a cost of Rs.1.20 Crore.
While coming down heavily on the forces trying to negate the achievements of Omar Abullah led Government, the Minister said that they have got frustrated with the commendable achievements registered by the Coalition Government and in a State of destination are trying to float obnoxious ideas. He said that the present Government does not believe in rhetoric but believes in action which is evident by the work done by the Government within the short span of time. Reiterating the commitment of coalition Government in providing basic amenities of life to rural and remote habitations, the Minister called upon the people to come forward and avail maximum benefits under MNREGA near to their door steps. Sagar said that last year the State has registered different works under MNREGA amounting to Rs.182 Crore while as a target of expending Rs.560 Crore has been earmarked for the current financial year so that maximum villages are brought under the ambit of this scheme. He further stated amount of cash assistance being given under IAY has been increased to Rs. 48500 from the existing Rs. 35000.
Mankotia lauded the sincere efforts of the Minister for streamlining the functioning of his department by initiating developmental works at a faster speed in rural area which really deserve the attention of the Government in improving the lot of poor sections of the society.
Mankotia urged upon the Minister to constitute a committee of officers to provide upgraded facilities like drinking water, power supply, road connectivity etc. to this model village. He demanded one more model village for block Udhampur.
