| Bhim urges PM to appoint Dogra as VC, CU | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 21: Chairman, National Panthers Party and Member, National Integration Council Prof Bhim Singh in a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has urged him to end all discriminations against the Dogras. He has sought Prime Minister's intervention to ensure that a Dogra irrespective of his caste or religion is appointed as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Central University (CU) Jammu. The Panthers Party Chief pointed out that out of seven Vice Chancellors in J&K's different Universities including the Central University are either outsiders or non-Dogras. He says that there is not a single Dogra Vice Chancellor which shows bias against the community, which had written the history of the defence and union of Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the country with its blood. He has strongly pleaded with the Prime Minister to ensure that a Dogra is appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu. Prof Bhim Singh wrote, "I am taking this liberty seeking your kind intervention on the appointment of a Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University, keeping in view the local situation, regional sentiments of the people of Jammu province. The Dogras were not only ignored and discriminated but were terribly put to humiliation and disgraced by the ruling class only because the Dogra Kings were the rulers of Jammu and Kashmir for 100 years. The Dogras have been neglected in every field and treated as outcaste though they have made tremendous achievements in all fields from defence to development. The Dogras is a secular fraternity identified with a Himalayan range stretching from Kashmir to Himachal Pradesh and Punjab irrespective of caste or religion. They have excelled in the field of science and technology, literature and history, art and culture and in making undaunted sacrifices in the defence of national security and borders. May I hope and trust that the Prime Minister may read the writings on the wall that justice needs to be done to the great and brave fraternity called the Dogras and take appropriate steps to ensure that a Dogra, irrespective of his caste, creed or religion, is given an opportunity to serve the nation as first Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu."
