| Dhandkote School fire incident | | Axe may fall on Principal, real culprit absconding | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Apr 21: Axe is likely to fall on Principal Higher Secondary School Dhandkote Rajouri along with his brother-in-law for their alleged involvement in burning case of Higher Secondary School Dhandkote which was completely damaged in fire incident a week ago. Police has launched a hunt to nab the culprit. Higher Secondary School Dhandkote was one of the oldest Schools of Darhal tehsil in Rajouri district which was set on fire by some miscreants a week ago. All the records were destroyed however some lecturers had already taken their service books to their homes. After lodging report in the police station Darhal, sources told Early Times that Station House Officer Zakir Shaheen Mirza has reached at the conclusion and has established the identity of the culprit as Tahir Farooq son of Mohammad Munshi Mirza, who is the brother -in-law of Principal Javed Iqbal. Sources said that the accused Tahir attempted to set ablaze the historic school earlier on several occasions besides allegedly involved in harassing the lecturers of the school for which the particular person has been charged and jailed. However sources said that Principal Javed Iqbal failed to stop the interference of his brother-in-law in the school. "He also did not lodge any report of earlier incidents in police station nor informed the higher authorities of the education department", sources said alleging "this time Principal was well aware that his school is going to be burnt on the fateful night". Sources added that earlier the accused had manhandled a lecturer Choudhary Sarfraz Ahmed and damaged his vehicle but Principal again failed to restrict him in the School. "Tahir was demanding to appoint him as Chowkidar in this school", sources added. Locals alleged that the Principal had taken Computer System of the school to home for personal use while out of the total 29 employees, 25 had taken out their service books. "The service books of four employees were in the school", sources added. "We had already kept our service books with us because we were aware about the criminal attitude of some people and Principals back to these criminal minded men", a lecturer said on condition of anonymity. When contacted, SHO Police Station Darhal Zakir Shaheen Mirza told Early Times "We have established the identity of the culprit. He is Tahir Farooq". SHO said that he has been absconding and hunt was launched to nab him. Though SHO said that Principal is not directly involved but his indirect involvement could not be ruled out. "We are investigating the role of Principal", he said. However, admitted that Principal has never reported about the earlier incidents in this school. "The culprit has earlier attempted to set the school on fire and had also damaged the school furniture besides manhandled teachers several times but the Principal not even a single time has reported the case ", he added. Sources said that education department has also constituted enquiry committee who has reportedly submitted the report to CEO Rajouri. Sources said that the report is not in the favor of Principal. When contacted, Chief Education Officer Rajouri, Gurcharan Singh said "Though Principal is not directly involved this incident has exposed inefficiency of the Principal and I am going to recommend high level enquiry against him". CEO said that he is recommending Joint Director level enquiry in this case. "Burning of this school is great loss to our department and the culprits must be punished", he said admitting that though such incidents had earlier happened but the Principal has not reported to them.
