SVO sources said Goutam Kumar of Bhalwal lodged a written complaint with SVO, alleging that Deeli's patwari Jawahar Lal of Narwal Pain had been demanding Rs 14,000 from him as bribe for making necessary entries in revenue records. The entries were to be made as he wanted to raise a loan from the Residency Road branch of J&K Bank for extending his business of plastic packing material over two kanals of land at Deeli registered in his name and falling under khasra No 37. Acting on his complaint, SVO sleuths laid a trap and arrested the patwari while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 from the complainant. The patwari was nabbed in the presence of independent witnesses, the sources added. Sources said during the search of patwari's office, an additional amount of Rs 37,000 was recovered. A case under relevant sections of law was registered against him at the SVO police station.
