| Committee formed to probe into smuggling of answer sheets from BOSE | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 21: A day after police caught a girl student of higher secondary part II (private) and two others, including an official of Board of School Education (BOSE), from a house at Nai Basti along with an answer sheet, a high-level committee was today constituted to look into the scam. Comprising joint secretaries -- SS Salathia and GR Ganai -- the committee had been asked to complete probe at the earliest and submit the report to the BOSE. BOSE secretary Sheikh Bashir said a code officer and a checking assistant had been removed from their positions. "The record of the code section, which marks codes on answer sheets of students, has been seized to find out the involvement of BOSE officials in the smuggling of answer sheets," he added. Bashir said a strict action under law would be taken against the guilty. The answer sheet smuggling racket was unearthed yesterday after the police raid on the house of Dharampal at Nai Basti. At the time of police raid, Ujjawal, daughter of Kamal singh of Paloura, was allegedly busy in writing answers of her physics paper on her sheet from books. Vyas Singh, board's special checking assistant, was also in the house that time. Police seized the answer sheet and arrested Ujjawal, Dharampal and Vyas Singh of Bari Brahmana. When police raided Vyas's residence, one more physics answer sheet was recovered from there. Ujjawal's father Kamal was also taken into custody by police today. During his interrogation, he allegedly told police that he had paid Rs 15,000 to Dharampal to help her daughter take the physics paper outside the examination hall. Vyas, a lab assistant in RS Pura degree college, was in the recent past attached to BOSE as special checking assistant. Vyas's interrogation was on. Police hoped to make more arrests in the case.
