| Intrusion bid foiled in Akhnoor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 21: Nearly 48 hours after at least five Pak-based militants successfully infiltrated into India from the Punjab's Simble Spol area, which adjoins Kathua in J&K, BSF foiled an intrusion bid on the International Border (IB) in Akhnoor sector in the wee hours of this morning. Police sources said a BSF sentry at the Mal Jodha border outpost (BoP) in Pargwal area of Akhnoor picked up suspicious movement close to the IB at about 3.45 am. The sentry opened fire in the direction of the suspicious persons, who immediately retreated, the sources added. A total of 12 to 15 rounds were fired by the sentry, the sources added, saying there was no firing from the other side. Soon after the detection of the suspicious movement, all BoPs and BSF patrols in Pargwal and other Jammu areas were alerted. Sources said a round-the-clock vigil was being maintained all along the IB to thwart any infiltration bid by the militants. The border residents had been asked to contact police, BSF or any other security agency in case they spotted suspicious persons in their villages or fields. As a precautionary measure, police were maintaining a tight vigil on all roads linking border areas in Akhnoor and Jammu to the main roads, the sources added. It may be mentioned that out of the five odd militants, who had infiltrated two back from Simble Spol, two were sighted and trapped at Hariachak in Rajbagh, Kathua. A search was still on to hunt them down.
