| ‘Admonishing’ engineers- Taj style | | ‘Have control, mgmt at pumping stations’ | |

JAMMU, Apr 21: If the concern of the PHE and Irrigation Minister Taj Mohi-u-Din over functioning of the pumping stations were to be taken seriously, Jammu areas which have been reeling under acute water scarcity are in for some respite this gruelling summer . But the minister expressed this concern in plush and cozy atmosphere of an 'elite' and highly 'mechanized' conference of the engineers this evening in a hotel. He appeared to mean business when he stressed on having 'control' and proper management of using valves, something which he suggested can ensure regulated if not regular supply of drinking water to various areas in the city.
It was no press conference nor a meet where normally media presence makes ministers conscious of what they are uttering. Perhaps under the impression there was no 'media crowd' Taj even scolded at few senior engineers while they were explaining technical details of newest techniques of Automation of Pumps and Auxillary equipments. The occasion was a formal seminar organized in collaboration with some private groups in which PHE minister was the chief guest. The organizers and collaborators gave an impressive power presentation of some new techniques of a gadget SIMPLEX, that would in use for the purpose of water and wastewater pumping, treatment and distribution plants process control, automation and management etc, which all come under the purview of Safe Drinking Water Act regulations at centre.
Though it was a formal occasion, after the mandatory inauguration rituals and presentations, the Minister made himself seated amidst a crowd of senior engineers. Visibly curious on many aspects, the minister, a 'seasoned' politician started making queries. Interestingly, during the course of conversation he interrupted and added on certain things, perhaps to show he was aware and knows 'intricate' details in terms of avoidable flaws and shortcomings, which he asserted needed to changed. Even as the interaction on technical aspects of the subject continued in a cordial manner, the sudden interruptions by the PHE minister made many senior feel unnerved.
"I am providing you world class equipments and gadgets…..but in return I am getting results not even worth of gadgets available in a local market………the problem lies in management and control at pumping stations", Taj said while he disagreed with one of technocrat elite. "You will have to study this whole system being operated at the main pumping stations of the city…….you need to monitor even minor aspects of functioning…there are some stations where people forget to open the valves…this needs to be checked", the PHE minister said suggesting the crowd of authorities at the helm to make Pilot Project for the purpose that can ensure proper monitoring and control system at the Pumping stations. When one of engineers tried to explain some 'bottlenecks', the minister rebuked and giving a purposeful look to all who stood in front of him." I know what is happening on ground…..what they do at the pumping stations…..which is why avoid visiting any because once I visit any one in the city, suspension of three to four persons is due……", Taj asserted, which for few moments left everyone in utter silence.
