J&K Top Postal Circle
4/22/2010 11:47:16 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 22:The Project Arrow, initiated by Department of Posts in 2008-09, has received Prime Minister's award for excellent in public administration. The award was received by Secretary, Department of Posts MS Radhika Doraisawami from the Prime Minister in a function held to mark the Civil Services day on 21 April 2010 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
As per press release last year that Department of Posts started this project all over the country. 1724 post offices were selected for a complete makeover of the postal services under this project. 15 of these post offices are from Jammu and Kashmir. These post offices were supplied with new computers and the all the postal operations were fully computerized. Most of these post offices have also been given a brand new look.
Almost unnoticed, J&K Postal Circle has emerged as the dark horse among all 22 postal circles in the country in Project Arrow. It has consistently been declared as the number one postal circle in India in the weekly evaluation carried out by the department of Posts for over two months now.
The evaluation under Project Arrow started in all the postal circles from the first week of October 2009. For the first few weeks J&K Postal Circle was always among the last 3 or 4 circles with a score of 60-70% while the top circles were scoring over 95%. Defying all odds, Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circles slowly made its way to the top and is now consistently getting a score of 98- 99% for the last 9-10 weeks, leaving more computer savvy circles way behind.
Nine of the 15 post offices brought under Project Arrow in J&K are Head Post Offices at Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Jammu City, Gandhi nagar, Udhampur, Kathua, Rajouri and Leh. In addition there are six sub post offices at SR Gunj (Srinagar), Pulwama, Akhnoor, RS. Pura, Ram Nagar and Doda. All these post offices, barring Jammu City, Udhampur, Kathua and Rajouri.
