| Vijay Malla performs amidst audience applause | | Rather, Ganai appreciate Cultural Academy | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 22: Appreciating the Cultural Academy for its role in promoting and developing the performing artists in the state, Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather said that Academy was doing a fine job as far as promotion of cultural activities was concerned. He was speaking on the occasion of a musical evening with noted ghazal singer Vijay Malla on Thursday. "Although I always remain busy with my official assignments, when I heard that Vijay Malla was performing I couldn't resist my temptation to come to the venue to listen to his soothing voice," the finance minister said. Commenting further on Malla Rather said that the singer had a compulsive voice which forces audience to throng the venues where he performs. "Artists like Vijay Malla not only entertain us but they also relieve us of agonies of daily life," Rather said, adding, "That is what makes them great". It is worthwhile to mention here that Vijay Malla is a singer of repute both within and outside India and has earned a name in the field of ghazal singing. During his illustrious career spanning decades he has performed alongside noted singers like Ahmad Hussain Mohammed Hussain, Peenas Masane, Anoop Jhalota and Pankaj Udhas among others. "This is what has made him great," said Secretary Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas. During today's function the celebrated ghazal singer sang almost twenty ghazals from the compositions of the likes of Rehman Rahi and Ghulam Ali. Before formal beginning of the programme, noted singer Vijay Malla was honoured by the Cultural Academy and was presented a bouquet, citation and shawl by Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and Secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas collectively. Principal Secretary to State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, who participated in the function as guest of honour was equally delighted to be in the audience. "I am glad that I was invited to such a beautiful musical evening," Ganai said, adding, "it was so rich that I will never forget". The programme proceedings were conducted by Mitali Gupta while PRO, Cultural Academy, Shakeel-ur-Rehman read the citation on Vijay Malla.
