| Painting , Quiz competitions mark World Earth day | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Apr 22: Students from various schools in the Capital got together to celebrate Earth Day here last week. Activities like quiz contests, poster and banner painting contests based on the theme of environment protection and conservation were organised. Youth Movement for Peace (YMP) observed Earth Day by organizing 2 days program in Modern Academy High School, Talab Khatika. Slogan Writing Competition was organized with the aim of making students aware of the problems entangling with the nature. The topic of the competition was "Save the Earth". Many students of the same school participated in the competition. Different themes like Global Warming, Deforestation, Pollution, Energy Crisis, Deny Polythenes, etc. had been taken by the students for their Slogan Writing Competition. Mehrul-Nisa (Class IX), Sakshi Mehra (Class X) and Aishwarya Mehra (Class X) clinched 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in Slogan Writing Competition whereas Lovepreet Singh (Class X) and Zahida (Class X) got consolation prize in the same competition. Vikas Sharma Chairman, YMP was the Chief Guest on this occasion. He awarded the meritorious students and appreciated all the students for their great performance and participation. He encouraged the students to participate in these kinds of competitions and awareness programs. Shanti Swaroop Gupta Principal, M.A.H.S expected more programs in the coming days and invited YMP to hold such awareness programs for the awareness of students. Bhubnesh Gupta Off. Administrator, Rama Bakshi, Rekha Sharma General Secretary, YMP, Ranjana Sharma Vice-Chairman, YMP, G.D.Singh Secretary, Sangeeta Office Adm, YMP, Sukhdev, Neeraj Ladhad Co-ordinator were also present on this occasion. Meanwhile ,Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) organized a painting competition of school students to celebrate World Earth Day at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Udhampur. The theme of the painting competition was on 'Global Warming and Climate Change' wherein about 150 students from different private and Govt Schools participated. Divisional Forest Officers Sajjad Mufti was the chief guest on the occasion and the principal Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Hans Raj Sharma was guest of honour.Afterward the prizes were distributed among the Ist, IInd and IIIrd position holder by the guests. The team of SPCB included Arshad Mirza, Subesh Chander, U D Chandial, Ajeet Kumar and Poli Devi have actively participated in the event. In senior category, Rakshanda Bhat of 9th class student of AOC Higher Secondary School bagged Ist position, Shagun Jamwal of 9th class student of AOC Hr Secondary School bagged 2nd position while Ramandeep Singh of SPM Convent School H C stood 3rd. In junior category, Dhanveer Kotwal of 8th class student of SPM Convent School H C bagged Ist prize while Abdhishek Kumar of 8th standard Vivik Niketan High School and Mohd Ashraf 8th class student of Govt central Middle School, bagged 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. Baba Ghulam Shah University too held a programme to mark Earth day Celebration, Minister for Agriculture , Ghulam Hasan Mir emphasized upon the larger role to be played by the Universities and the research institutes towards making the earth a better place to live. He stressed upon the need of imparting value education to the students who would carry forward the message of saving the earth from all kinds of anthropogenic dangers. He expressed his happiness over the activities of CBS in this regard and asked the faculty and students to be a trend setter in this direction. Welcoming chief guest, Masud A. Choudhary apprised the minister about the idea and motive behind establishing CBS during the very beginning of the BGSB University. He emphasized upon the needs of saving the motherland from the cruel hands of man by generating awareness by organizing such programmes and actively doing jobs in the field. The other prominent speakers who spoke on the occasion included Mr. S.D.S. Jamwal, D.I.G., Rajouri Poonch range, Professors V.S.Manhas and R.K.Ganjoo from the University of Jammu. To mark the celebration, Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) Kathua too organised a programme in the premises of the school. On the occasion all the students of the schools participated and also addressed the gathering to tell the importance of the day and how it becomes for us to protect the existence of the of the earth which is in danger. The principal of the higher secondary school (Boys) Kathua Santosh Kohli put some light on the declining state of the earth which is called as mother of all and he also exposed very serious reasons which are dragging the earth toward the state of complete extinction of such a great life producing planet earth. The students of Children National School Kathua took out a big procession to aware the people on the eve of the celebration of the "Earth Day". The procession was started from ward no. 6 to all around the city having with attractive placards reflecting the massage to save the mankind and nature through written slogans like "Global Warming Down Down", 'Save Nature Save Mankind' Change the 'One sided and Anti Nature Social Model' and 'Grow Green Grow Green.' On the conclusion of the procession at the premises of the school the some students like Himani Gupta, Shagun Gupta, and Raman Chopra. Karishma Arora, Vikram and Sahil expressed their valuable concerns over the degradation of the environment and the health of the earth, they said that most of the pollution caused by various human activities like excessive emission of poisonous gases from the industries, intensive deforestation, use of chemicals in lands and use if few electric appliances like ACs. Refrigerators and etc. all these factors are playing big role to boost the devastation of the environment and health of entire planet.
