| Mountaineering Association releases calendar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 22: Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir today released its annual calendar of activities for the season ahead within the state and outside. The calendar was released by the Secretary J&K State Sports Council, S A Laharwal at Sports House, M A Stadium, here. Among others present included Dr C K Khajuria, secretary, Yogeshwar Sharma, vice-president, MD Naqash, treasurer and Ram Khajuria, secretary North Zone Sport Climbing Committee, New Delhi. While releasing the schedule of activities, the Secretary, Sports Council said that all possible support would be extended to the Association for promotion of adventure activities in the state. An artificial climbing wall shall soon be raised at a suitable place in the state, the Secretary was quoted as saying. The calendar of activities included a prestigious mountaineering expedition to Matho Kangri (20430 ft) in Ladakh to be organised by the Association in August besides 11 trekking expeditions in J&K and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from conducting the mandatory district and State Sport Climbing Championships as also participation in the North Zone and National Climbing competitions, the Association shall host the second round of Monthly Series of North Zone Competition as well as North Zone Sub-Junior Sport Climbing Championship in May and September. "A number of coaching camps and training courses in sport climbing have also been planned during the year. For the first time, a Judges and Route Setters course for J&K climbers shall also be conducted by the Association," general secretary of the Association, Dr C K Khajuria.
