| Charak alleges misappropriation in implementing NREGA | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 22: Former Minister and President Dogra Sadar Sabha Gulchain Singh Charak alleged that frauds and corrupt practices being adopted in implementing NREGA Scheme in rural areas. Talking to media persons here today, Charak demanded that a special team of honest and dedicated officers be constituted and entrusted the job of looking into such corrupt practices so that this scheme be implemented in right perspective. He further alleged that the funds from the Centre under this scheme have been wasted and not withdrawn to genuine. He said that Sabha has decided to launch 'Save the Birds' programme by arranging drinking water in clay pots in the Jungles and other areas especially of Kandi belt of this province, which will be launched on 1st of May, 2010 from Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan in which about one thousand volunteers including the students of colleges and schools will take part. 'Though the District Administration Samba has imposed a clear cut ban on lifting the sand from the holy 'Devika' at Purmandal/Utterbehni but people in large number are taking away the sand from without any fear, thus besides hurting the religious sentiments of the public the water level of the holy Gupt Ganga has gone low', he mentioned. Concerning over draught in the Jammu province, he appealed the government to take immediate necessary measures to provide the adequate relief to the affected. He informed that in general body meeting of the Sabha we have passed certain resolution included special drive should be carried out to prepare BPL lists of deserving people by involving Numberdars and Chowkidars of the villages to revise the already prepared defective lists having the names of undeserving persons, Jammu Festival should be continued organizing all over the Jammu province for 15 days as per the past practice, making all the Deputy Commissioners of the districts incharge for the same etc which will submitted to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
