| Forest Deptt organises book release function | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 23: In tune with global commitment and United Nation's declaration of year 2010 as year of Biodiversity and to mark World Book Day, J&K Forest Department organized a Book release function here today. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jagdish Kishwan while speaking on the occasion emphasized the importance of publications for the dissemination of scientific and peoples knowledge across the varied section of the society. He applauded the contribution of O P Sharma Vidyarthi, who has written on varied subjects like Medicinal Plants, Biodiversity, Taxonomy and Dogri literature with matchless expertise and commitment. He highlighted that J&K has a wealth of more than 100 plants of great therapeutic value and out of these about 24 species are in the threatened category six plants like Aconitum, (Patees), Saussurea (Kuth), Arnebia (Kahzawain) Picrorhiza (Kaur) etc are critically endangered as for CAMP Workshop organized by Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health traditions. AK Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests, Central, Abdul Razak, Chief Conservator of Forests, Working Plan Research and Trainings and Suresh Chugh, Chief Conservator of Forests, FCA also spoke on the importance of publications brought out by the Working Plan Circle, Captain Lalit Kumar Sharma, Conservator of Forests, FCA threw light on the contribution and relevance of Scientific and forestry publications with focus on people's knowledge and customs. Senior Officers of the department, NGOs and citizens were also present on the occasion.
