Usha Vohra visits Neha Ghar, Apna Ghar

JAMMU, Apr 23: The First Lady, Usha Vohra, who is also the President, Association for Social Health in India (ASHI), visited Neha Ghar and Apna Ghar here today and took stock of the functioning thereof.
The First Lady had a round of the Neha Ghar at Kachi Chawni, which is a short stay home being run by ASHI for women and children in distress. She interacted with the inmates of the Neha Ghar and witnessed the handicraft products made by them. She visited the Crafts Centre where the inmates are provided training in cutting, tailoring, embroidery, fashion designing and soft toys making etc.
During interaction with the Managing Committee Members of the Neha Ghar, Vohra enquired about the facilities being provided to the inmates. She stressed the need for arranging adequate marketing facilities for the products made by the inmates and also focusing on to provide them training in various crafts to enable them to become economically self-reliant.
The First Lady gave a cheque of Rs. 50,000 for the upkeep and maintenance of the Neha Ghar.
Later, Vohra visited Apna Ghar at Trikuta Nagar. She took a round of the Apna Ghar, visited the computer laboratory and other sections and enquired about its functioning from the members of the Managing Committee. She also had a detailed interaction with the 24 female children affected by the Kargil conflict of 1999, who are staying in the Apna Ghar. They presented a cultural programme based on patriotism and composite cultural heritage of the State.
The First Lady gave a cheque of Rs. 50,000 for buying six sewing machines, one television set and one music system for the Apna Ghar.
The Vice President, ASHI, J&K Chapter, Sushma Choudhary, briefed the First Lady about the functioning of the Neha Ghar and Apna Ghar, various facilities being extended to the inmates and those being planned for the future.
The Secretary, ASHI, J&K Chapter, Kailash Rajput, members of the Executive Committee and Management Committees and inmates of the Neha Ghar and the Apna Ghar received Vohra by presenting her flowers and mementos. Among those present on the occasion were Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Seema Khajooria Shekhar and Nasreen Khan.
