| Ever diminishing respect of educators | | |
Sir,
Since the times immemorial, education has always been regarded as the most sacred thing on earth. Same is true about the profession of teaching. People have always looked the teacher in high esteem. Even in our sacred books of religion, teacher has been accorded a place, superior to God. For it is the teacher only who shows the path to knowledge, to light. It is this light that liberates us from all the wordly shackles and helps to transcend from ordinary to extra ordinary.
The teacher today has become more democratic. He has even given up the rod to used to hold as a strict disciplinarian. The researchers in the field of education advocate the use of such pedagory of teaching, which is more psychological in its approach. But even then, the average student today does not hold the teachers in as high esteem as be used to do centuries before.
Today education has no more remained the function of State. The latter has utterly failed in its responsibility. Consequently, the welfare part having lost, education is becoming dearer and dearer every day. The advent of public schools in this field is one consequence. The public schools have become so popular in our country that even the employees of State Education Boards prefer these for education of their wards. With exception of course, the teachers of these schools often complain exploitation leading to a high level of frustration in their community. The frustration at this level affects the compassionate and sympathetic attitude of the teachers towards this pupil adversely.
