| Demonstration against police for mahandling PG student at campus | | | Kunal Srivatsa EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 23: Agitated over the manhandling of a PG student of Jammu University's Sanskrit department by police at the campus today, students held a strong demonstration, demanding action against the erring cops. Yash Sharma, who had covered his face with a scarf, was signalled to stop for checking by cops at the JU entrance. However, when he did not stop his motorcycle, cops chased him in their Maruti Gypsy and caught hold of him outside Sanskrit department. Even as Yash showed cops his identity card, they dragged him to their Gypsy, dumped him in the vehicle and then took him to the entrance where they made him to stand in the scorching heat for about two hours, according to students. Agitated over the incident, students of various departments later gathered in front of the office of Dean Students' Welfare (DSW), Dr J S Tara and held a massive protest amidst the raising of anti-police and anti-JU slogans. They asked the JU authorities to immediately remove police post from the campus, failing which they said they would be forced to launch an agitation. When contacted, Dr Tara said there was no police post at the campus and cops were deputed at the entrance only to assist the JU security.He, however, assured a probe into the incident.
