| Anara Gupta case transferred from NHRC to SHRC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 23: Astonishingly, when the sensational Anara Gupta porn CD case was in final stages of hearing, it was today transferred from the national human rights commission (NHRC) to the state human rights commission (SHRC). Official sources said the case was transferred from NHRC to SHRC on the state government's plea that the national body did not have any jurisdiction to hear the matter. The government move surprised all here, especially when the case was in final stage of hearing before NHRC. The incident took place in October 2004 and the government surprisingly asked for the transfer of the case after about six years. Seeking transfer of the case, the government said it had its own human rights body to inquire into complaints of rights' violations and to recommend action on such complaints. Several "influential" politicians were alleged to be involved in the sex scandal. A CD with pornographic movie allegedly featuring Anara Gupta came to light in October 2004 and was aired on several TV stations. Pornography being illegal in India, she was arrested. Later, a film, featuring Anara, was also released on her real life story. It was, however, not shown in Jammu theatres because of protests by Shiv Sena.
