| NCSU alleges harassment of students by police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 24: J&K National Conference Students Union (NCSU) today alleged harassment by the policemen deployed on Jammu University (JU) campus on students. Addressing media persons here today, Rahul Sharma, NCSU president alleged that University of Jammu is becoming day by day a center of atrocities by armed personnel on students. 'Not even a single day has passed without the incidents of harassment of students by security personals deployed in the campus', he said, adding, 'The numbers of complaints against such officials are lying in the office of Dean Students Welfare but no action has been initiated so far'. Sharma said that it is amazed to know that not even single female security personnel deployed in the campus and the male security persons are carrying out the checking of purse or a bag of girl students. He further said that a committee was constituted to look whether the deployment of armed personell is required or not, but without the report of the committee the armed personals are operating in the campus. To meet the expenditure and extra burden of deployment of armed personals on the budget, the university administration is likely to increase the fees structure for various courses, he said, adding that NCSU will oppose the move of the JU administration. NCSU appealed the concerning authority to look into matter and take action against police harassment on students.
