| Coalition failed to act against separatists: BJP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 24: Criticising the Omar Abdullah government for its "failure" to act against separatist leaders, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appealed to President Pratibha Patil and Governor N N Vohra to take note of developments in the state which is "being turned into a hotbed of conspiracies against the country." "The incompetence of the state government has assumed alarming proportions so much so that certain elements have openly come out in support of terrorism," Leader of the BJP legislature party Chaman Lal Gupta told reporters here. He said the bandh called by separatist leaders in Kashmir yesterday and statements like those of PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti are quite significant in this regard in the wake of conviction of some militants by a Delhi Court. "The separatists and semi-separatists have been indulging in voices challenging the very unity of the country since long but the failure of the government authorities to act under the law of the land has encouraged such elements to the extent that they have now begun openly denouncing even the verdict of the courts," the BJP charged. Gupta lamented that it was really a "sad situation" and the governments, both that of the state as also at the centre, owe an explanation that who is responsible for all this mess. "The matter gets all the more important because many of the persons challenging the verdict of the court also include those who are under oath of the Constitution and they are enjoying not only perks and benefits by virtue of their being Indians but also are having high degree of security at the cost of the Indian exchequer," he maintained. He alleged that the failure of the state government to act for protecting the law, has obviously added new dimensions to the situation, adding that the planned, rather calculated, designs to malign the security forces by raising the bogey of violation of Human Rights and instead of snubbing such elements the joining of the CM to the chorus in public speeches that blood of a particular section of the people was not "so cheap" speaks volumes about the thinking the approach of the government leaders.
