| Delay in enforcement of APMR Act: Wani | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT DODA, Apr 24: MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani has expressed deep concern over excessive delay in enforcement of Jammu & Kashmir State Agriculture Produce Marketing Regulation (APMR) Act 1997. The inordinate delay is detrimental to welfare of state growers and also causing major loss of revenue to state’s economy. MLA Doda has asked for the direct intervention of Horticulture Minister and the Chief Minister for immediate implementation of the APMR Act in J&K by positioning full fledged dedicated Secretaries, Secretaries (IInd) and other requisite enforcement staff in these markets on deputation basis from amongst the senior Grading/Marketing Inspectors of the Department or alternatively, so that these APMCs work smoothly & prove to be an important tool for helping growers by removing the malpractices prevailing in these markets. The qualified and experienced force of Grading/Marketing Inspectors in Department of Horticulture (P&M) are, reportedly, also phasing stigma of working on same one post for more than twenty years due to stagnation in the department and inordinate delay in cadre review/expansion of the department since its inception in seventies.
