| 2 HM ultras killed in Gandoh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 24: Of the two top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants, holed up in a natural cave in the dense Makrolu forests of Gandoh in Doda, one was killed by troops in a gunbattle last evening while the other was eliminated this morning. The two militants were hiding in a natural cave when acting on a tip-off, army and police had rushed to the spot last evening, according to police sources. Sources said while the police and army jawans were laying a cordon around the cave, the two hiding militants fired at them and also lobbed grenades. The grenades exploded in noman's land without causing any harm to the jawans, the sources added. While one militant, who was identified as Tanvir Ahmad, was shot dead by jawans last evening, the other kept exchanging fire till this morning. He too was shot dead by the jawans when he came out of the cave at about 6.30 am in an attempt to flee. He was identified as HM tehsil commander Jabar Aziz. Tanvir was Jabar's deputy. While Tanvir hailed from Sohran, Gandoh, Jabar was resident of Akhiarpur near Jakiyas in Gandoh. Both were close associates of HM divisional commander Shah Din alias Shabir Shah. One AK rifle, its three magazines, 28 rounds, one pistol and a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from them. Police teams, which participated in the encounter under the supervision of ASP (Bhaderwah) Tej Raj Katoch, were led by Gandoh police station SHO, Inspector Barkat Qureshi and STF incharge, sub-inspector Shiv Krishan Sharma. There was no casualty on the part of the troops, the sources added. Sources said both the militants were involved in several militancy related incidents in Gandoh and its adjoining areas.A murder case also stood registered against Jabar at the Gandoh police station, the sources added.
