SSJAC demands local VC for CU Jammu

JAMMU, Apr 25: Even as Prof Amitabh Matoo "appointed" as the first Vice Chancellor of upcoming Central University Jammu, the Students Scholar Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) reiterated its demand of local of Vice Chancellor for this prestigious institute.
In a joint meeting of students, scholars and other student organizations of University of Jammu, the participated strongly demanded appointment of an academician from Jammu as the Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu.
The executive member SSJAC, Mohinder Pal Singh Pandu said, "Since its establishment for the last 45 years, Jammu University is seemed to have failed to produce a single talented academician who belongs to Jammu and capable to become Vice Chancellor of upcoming Central University Jammu." "It clearly shows the weakness and inefficiency of the varsity. Time and again, successive governments have tried to prove that Jammuites are inefficient and incapable to head the Jammu University as well as Central University," Pandu said.
He accused the Sate as well as Central government of hatching a conspiracy against Jammu region alleged that both the governments are trying to introduce a non-local Vice Chancellor for Central University Jammu.
Another executive member of SSJAC, Love jeet Singh Jimmy, state chairman, Jammu State Student Morcha warned that if the government appoints a non-local Vice Chancellor, the students would launch an agitation in Jammu.
Speaking on the occasion, Aman, president Sangram Sena Student Union said, "Jammu University has lot of talented professors who are originally belongs to Jammu and are well-versed with the problems of Jammu people. Prominent among those who were present in the meeting included Abhishek Koushal, Ram Sharma, Kader Khan, Jag Mohan, John David, Suraj Singh, Moshim, Nishant Verma and Aparna Kour.
State pensioners hold rally, express solidarity with employees

Jammu, Apr 25: The leaders of J&K pensioners association have condemned the in human attitude of state government towards the state government employees who were on strike for redressal of their long pending demands. They also criticized the governments delaying tactics in solving the problems of pensioners who have been strongly for the last one year.
Mukund lal Sharma while addressing the rally of pensioner coming from Jammu city, RS Pura Akhnoor, Samba, Hira Nagar, Kathua, Billawar, Udhampur, Nowshera, Poonch, beside Kashmir division condemned the policy of deducting the pay of the strike period of thousands of employees who have been sincerely, performing their duties, during this service period. This harsh attitude of the state government needs to be reviewed immediately for the betterment and wishes of the employees.
Sharma warns the state government to be fair and rational in dealing with the problems of the employees and pensioner other wise, the Jammu and Kashmir working class will evolve a strategy to give a tough fight to coalition government in local bodies elections and Panchayat Elections in the state in which the government will be exposed for its total failure at all fronts every where in the state. The pensioners leaders further wanted to clear the government that the pensioners will launch a massive signature campaign for the dissolution of the legislative council of the state which is mere burden on the exchequer of the state.
The pensioners association has pledged to express solidarity with the striking employees by organizing joint rallies thoughout the state against the dictatorial will of the government regarding the welfare of said community.
That the arrears of revision of pension w.e.f 01.01.2006 to 30.06.2009 be paid in one installment in respect of state pensioners and the original amount of pension granted in favour of pensioners be recovered in 10 years instead of 15 years.
Others who also spoke were Sampat Prakash and Madan Lal Abrol.
