| Nephew axes uncle to death at Mendhar | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 25: Over a land dispute, a youth today axed his uncle to death in the presence of panchayat members inside a government school at Mendhar in Poonch today.
There was a land dispute between Abdul Rehman and his first cousin Siraj Din, both residents of Drana, 3 km ahead of Mandhar.To settle the dispute, a panchayat was called at the government girls higher secondary school, Mendhar, in the afternoon, police sources said.
Sources said the members of both the families were also present in the panchayat. While the panchayat members and some village elders were busy in arriving at a decision, Siraj's son Javed Hussain attacked Rehman with an axe from behind and inflicted serious stab injuries on him, the sources added.
Rehman was removed by some people to the sub-district hospital, Mendhar, where he succumbed to his injuries. Police had registered a murder case against the accused.
While police had arrested five persons, Javed was still absconding. Sources said raids were being conducted by police to nab him.
