| SC/ST deputation calls on Bali Bhagat | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 25: A deputation of SC/ST people today called on State Vice president of Bharatiya Janata Party Bali Bhagat at party head quarter today and apprised him that there are large number of vacancies in various ranks in Police force particularly Sub Inspectors in respect of above categories. It has been seen that in recruitment and in promotional benefits of these posts violation of reservation rules is being meted out to these categories despite clear cut guide lines have been issued by the government to maintain merit list, Roster points and nomination of nodal officers have been made for implementation of these rules, even penalty imposed on them for any such violations in reservation rules. Even the Supreme court disposed off a PIL in March 2008 seeking directions to centre, states and Union Territories to fill up the vacancies in the police force as per sanctioned strength. The members said that there is shortage of 1.21 lakh vacant posts of SIs of these categories in the country due to which the states are unable to control crime especially in militancy and in Naxalite prone states due to shortage of man power. Bali Bhagat said that there are 524 posts of SIs vacant in J&K for which process of recruitment started in January 2009. Despite lapse of one and a half year, no result came out. It is pertinent to mention here that there is huge back log in police department. He alleged that in promotion lists for the posts of categories the two words lines "kept reserved" in such orders are being mentioned. He pleaded that eligible SC and ST officers in the department right from ASIs to Dy SPs be considered for promotion at earliest.
