Slathia, Altaf urge people for judicious use of water

JAMMU, Apr 25: To assess the problems of the people for early redressal the Minister for Industries and Commerce S S Slathia today visited different areas of his assembly constituency.
He was accompanied by the Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad.
Addressing a public meeting at Saroor in Bari Brahamana, Salathia called upon the people to make judicious use of water resources as the ground water level is depleting day by day in view of the prevailing dry spell which has not only affected the water bodies but has affected flora and fauna of the State also.
He said Government is sincere in providing regular water supply to the people for drinking purposes and also trying to explore possibilities for the preservation of existing water bodies in different Kandi areas for the use of animals and other biotic communities.
The Minister said that 8 tube wells have already been provided to cope up with the water scarcity in the area and one more tube well would be provided soon in the area. He said the Government is committed to ensure availability of essential commodities at ration depots, adding that ways are being looked into for free ration to drought it areas on priority basis.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Altaf Ahmad urged for preservation of different water bodies which are very vital in the present dry spell and appealed people not to waste the precious natural resource.
At Thalori village, Slathia announced construction of one more tube well and a hand-pump as demanded by the people. He also asked them either to identify land or voluntarily donate it for the construction of a Community hall enabling the people to celebrate/perform religious functions there. He said funds for the purpose will be provided by him from his constituency development fund (CDF).
At Village Nihalki, the Minister inaugurated lanes and drains project completed at a cost of Rs.2 Lakhs provided under CDF during last year.
He also issued instructions for installation of five electric poles and assured that deserving left over BPL families would be got included in the lists of this category. He also provided a sewing machine to a poor deserving person on the occasion.
At Tavela he assured the preservation of the existing pond to cope up the demands projected by the people.
