Gandhian Philosophy relevant even today: Radha Bhat

JAMMU, Apr 25: Chairp-erson, Gandhi Peace Found-ation New Delhi, Radha Bhat today asserted that Gandhian philosophy was relevant even today in 21st century. Talking to media persons here today, Bhat who was on 6-day visit to Jammu with a mission of 'Peace and Environment' said, "Gandhian Philosophy is most progressive philosophy even today and its lesson of non-violence and self-reliance has been accepted all over the world".
"US president Obama had said that he always believe in Gandhian Philosophy of non-violence and he always seen Gandhi in front of him", she said. 'There is an immediate need for inculcating Gandhian values in the new generation', she said, averring that these were universally-accepted values which could help tackle violence.
Bhat said, "Peace to be restored in the world with the help of Gandhian ideology and lesson which he had propagated to the world".
Commenting over the terrorism and Naxalism, the chairperson said, "Unrest in India due to terrorism and naxalism was the result of our deviation from Gandhian Philosophy".
"Had we addressed the problems of 'Adivasi' or people of backward areas in right way, brought development in backward areas, there would no Naxalism problem in India', she admitted.
Bhat said that she visited Rajouri Poonch, Jammu and met people, Governor J&K N N Vohra, DGP J&K Police Kuldeep Khoda, Ministers G M Saroori and other heads of the different departments. She further said that the main focus of her visit to Jammu is to create awareness regarding peace and environment protection which will remain a constant programme.
She said that during her visited she found a live example of brotherhood, unity and communal binding in Rajouri-Poonch which if promote will become example of communal harmony before entire nation. She said that people in Rajouri and Poonch were very eager to adopt and follow Gandhian principles.
Referring on her meeting with Governor N N Vohra yesterday, Bhat said, "Governor stressed to take Gandhian ideology to schools as the young students are the ambassadors to carry the message of Gandhi to grass root level.
She announced to open J&K chapter of Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi soon.
Radha Bhat also pay obeisance at Shahadra Sharief, Budda Amarnath, Nangali Sahib for restoration of peace and protection of environment. Ramesh Sharma, national coordinator, GPF NewDelhi, Ashwani Jogra, Sahyog India, S P Sharma, J&K Gandhian Foundation were also present in the press conference.
