| PDP flays ban on Pak channels in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 25: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken serious note of the illogical decision of the government to ban 12 Pakistani channels in Jammu region without any reason. In a joint statement issued here today PDP general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh and party MLC Murtaza Khan have flayed this 'arbitrary' and 'foolish' decision of the state government. PDP leaders said that there was no reason to ban airing of these channels in Jammu as such channels were not telecasting any thing provocative or wrong. Some of the channels banned by the government were rather telecasting programmes for strengthening peace and communal harmony among cross sections of the society. PDP leaders pointed out that some of the channels which were banned by the authorities were telecasting purely religious programmes to educate the people about religion so there no logic in this decision. "Religious sentiments of the people have been hurt due to the decision of the government to ban some channels which telecast only religious programmes and teachings", Balbir Singh said and asked the government to reconsider its foolish decision. Singh especially pointed out that channel like Peace TV, which has been banned in Jammu region following decision of the authority, telecasts programmes to strengthen to communal harmony and brotherhood so it was illogic to ban this channel. Khan warned the government against taking such 'foolish' decision and observed these actions would further increase alienation of the people. In a democratic system people are free to watch any programmes and channels and decision of government to curtail constitutional rights of the people would prove counter productive, he said
