| Kote-Bhalwal jail superintendent booked in dowry case | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 25: A case was today registered by police against Kote-Bhalwal jail superintendent Salim Ahmad Baig for allegedly demanding dowry from his wife -- a government school teacher. A written complaint against Baig was made by his wife Shabeen Shadab with the women cell at Canal Road here, police sources said. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case against the jail superintendent under section 498-A (FIR No 18/2010). In the complaint, the woman alleged that her husband had been subjecting her to mental harassment and curelty for the last five years. She alleged that her husband was not only demanding dowry but had also thrown her out of her matrimonial house in Jammu and threatened her of dire consequences. “I alongwith my father was assaulted and threatened by my husband at Shahidi Chowk here when I tried to meet my children”, she alleged and added, “I am also being denied access to my children, who have been illegally kept hostage by my husband”. In her complaint, she has given a detailed account of the property jointly owned by the couple, alleging that she was also being denied her legal share of it. The property included a flat at Wazarat Road, land and house at Patnitop, land at Humhama, Srinagar, land at Swarna Vihar, Jammu, land at Mishriwala and a car”. When contacted, women cell incharge, Inspector Shakti Devi confirmed that the FIR had been registered against the police fficer. “We are verifying the allegations made by the complainant and further action can be taken only after investigation”, she said.
