| Chaman calls on Governor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 26: To convey their serious concern over the 'deteriorating' law and order situation, so much so, the secessionists and protagonists of autonomy are openly coming out in support of the terrorists but the state government failing in taking any effective steps against the offenders, BJP Legislature Party leader, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta this afternoon called on the state Governor, N N Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here. Prof Gupta explained that on one hand in a systematic manner the forces are being maligned under a design, on the other even the judgment of a court of New Delhi is being made a cause of creating trouble. He also drew attention of the Governor that how the basic democracies in the state are being made an object of mockery by not extending the 73rd and 74th Amendment of the Indian Constitution despite his promise in this regard last year during his address to Joint Session of both the Houses of the Legislature. BJP leader explained that in the absence of Panchayati Raj and the empowered local bodies, the state is losing hundred of crores of rupees Central assistance for developmental activities in the villages as also the towns.
