EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 26: In connection with the programme of the party to hold demonstrations for solution of the Kashmir problem, activists of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today organized demonstrations throughout Jammu region. At all district headquarters party workers submitted a memorandum to the concerned Deputy Commissioners to forward the same to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
In the memorandum PDP demanded revocation of draconian Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), withdrawal of armed forces from all civilian areas and internal security duties beside release of all political prisoners.
Party also demanded some effective steps should be taken to make trade and travel across LoC hassle free. At Jammu, a protest demonstration was held under the leadership of party general secretary Balbir Singh in which hundreds of workers participated. The procession passed through the different bazaars of Jammu city. Shouting slogans against the state government , the protesting PDP workers alleged that it has failed on all fronts. Besides Balbir Singh, party vice president and former Rajya Sabha member Trilok Singh Bajwa also addressed the PDP workers and exhorted them to launch a war against this worst ever corrupt government headed by Omar Abdullah.
Though it was Peoples Democratic Party's rally in Rajouri, it seemed Hurriyat function with agendas similar to that of Hurriyat Conference. Kashmir issue, demilitarization, revocation of 'draconian' laws and Indo-Pak dialogue process were some of the issues highlighted during the programme besides a resolution was passed for granting of self rule to the state.
In Rajouri, PDP leaders viz Member Legislative Assembly Choudhary Zulfikar Ali, Shahzad Khan and Tazeem Dar arranged an impressive programme. Though these leaders highlighted traditional PDP issue like demilitarization, revocation of Armed Forces Special Power Act, they took another turn for resolution of Kashmir issue. Now the issue is more important for the party than petty issues of water, electricity and food supply. "Though our people are suffering due to non availability of water, power and food, we can tolerate this but Kashmir is more important for us and we want its resolution on priority basis as huge bloodshed has been taken place", Choudhary Zulfikar Ali said. He said that though PDP will continue to fight for the petty issues, the Party has planned to highlight Kashmir issue on priority basis. He also castigated National Conference government terming it an anti-people and anti-employees government.
Party leaders during the rally also highlighted the issues of revocation of AFSPA and also demand demilitarization of the state.
Speaking on the occasion PDP leader Tazeem Dar said that the situation of Jammu & Kashmir will continue to deteriorate till the issue is not resolved through dialogue. He said that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had played a vital role in creating an environment of friendship between India and Pakistan. "It was only after Mufti's efforts that than Prime Minister of India Atal Biharai Vajpayee shake hands with Than President of Pakistan General Parvaiz Musharaf" he said adding "We are sincere to resolve this issue", they said adding that they had created an environment of peace and National Conference deteriorated the situation. Shahzad Khan also spoke on these issues.
