| Merit ignored in State Sports Council | | Junior promoted as Sports Officer, senior relegated to Pulwama | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 26: Merit and seniority have been ignored in the Jammu and Kashmir state sports council and while a junior and undeserving has been posted as the sports officer(JMU), the senior has been reprimanded for making a representation for his just and legitimate right. In a bizarre development, the secretary sports council, S A Laherwal promoted Rajan Sharma, a boxing coach and district manager Jammu as incharge sports officer Jammu, ignoring Abdul Qayoom, a cricket coach and district manager Srinagar, who was senior to him in service. Sources in the council divulge that the secretary had issued the order of promotion in favour of Rajan Sharma in advance even as the incumbent, Arun Sharma was still in chair. When Qayoom, the next senior got to know that he was being superseded, he represented his case to the secretary and also to a sitting Minister whom he knew personally. Anguished by the representation made by him, Secretary not only asked Rajan Sharma to take charge of the office of the sports officer even while Arun Sharma was still in chair, but also reprimanded Qayoom by posting him from Srinagar to Pulwama and seeking explanation from him for approaching the Minister, thus paving way for his blue eyed Rajan Sharma. It is pertinent to mention here that with the other portfolios taking more time of the Minister Incharge R S Chib and no sports council in place, S A Laherwal, has become the 'all in one' in the sports scenario of Jammu and Kashmir and he is being misguided by a couple of his blue eyed officers to make decisions which are arbitrary and unlawful.
