EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 27: In view of onset of the summer season, the checking of eatables and other commonly used food items has been started by a team of Food Inspectors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) led by Dr Mohd Anwar Chowdhary, Health Officer. The team inspected various cold drink points, ice cream parlours, juice and fruit drink stalls, Dhabas, cooked food rehries, sugarcane juice rehries in the areas of Qasim Nagar, Gujjar Nagar, Panama Chowk, Shastri Nagar, Nai Basti and Gandhi Nagar. About 50 Kgs of sub-standard ice cream, 10 Kgs of stale cooked food, 50 pieces of chipped crockery were destroyed on the spot. A compounding fee Rs 4500 was realized from 11 defaulters on spot. Also during the last one week 15 samples of different kinds of local and branded cold drinks and juices were also lifted and sent for analysis to Public Analyst, Public Health Laboratory, Jammu. A strict vigil is being maintained on all food establishments and the owners are asked to ensure supply of pure and fresh quality of food to the general public and also keep standard of hygienic conditions in their premises failing which strict action will be taken against them under law. The drive will continue and the general public is requested to cooperate with the JMC to make the drive a success. Besides this, the Enforcement field staff led by the Chief Enforcement Officers with the help of police force led by the Station House Officer, Police Station Bakshi Nagar, Jammu continued the Anti-Encroachment drive to clear the footpaths, pavements and parts of roads from the encroachments in the Maheshpura area near Govt Medical College, Jammu. During the drive the team seized the goods /articles like Drums, Utensils, Wooden Counters, Rehries, Plastic Crates, Umbrellas, Plastic Tub, Gas Cylinder, Sign Board, Fan, Steel Drum, Iron Benches, Gas Stove, Foot wears & garments which were placed upon footpaths, road sides and pavements causing obstruction to the pedestrians and free movement of vehicular traffic.
