| Yoga must be mandatory for schools: Ramadoss | | |
Strongly advocating making yoga compulsory at the school level, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss has said he would write to Human Resource Minister Arjun Singh in this regard.
Ramadoss was speaking after inaugurating the sixth AROGYA, a comprehensive health fair organised by the ministry's Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) department in New Delhi.
He said the success of AYUSH in creating an innovative original database known as Traditional Knowledge Digital Library is laudable.
"Documentation of the exisiting knowledge available in the public domain on various traditional systems of medicine have become imperative to safeguard the sovereignty of our traditional knowledge and to protect them from misappropriation," the Minister said.
He said a Medicinal Plan Processing Zone across the country would go a long way towards exporting processed goods rather than raw material for making medicines, as is being done now.
Ramadoss said under the National Rural Health Mission, the government had decided to provide an AYUSH facility in public health centres and community health centres throughout the country.
"This will be done with the aim to strengthen the outreach of primary health care," he said.
