| Couple, minor boy among 5 dead, 43 injured in bus mishap | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 27: Five persons, including a couple and a two-year-old boy, were killed and 43 others injured, 10 of them critically, when a bus in which they were travelling today skidded off the road at Kaghot in Ramnagar, Udhampur, and fell into a gorge. The ill-fated bus (JK02K/3255) was on its way from Udhampur to Padiari in Ramnagar. Police sources said the mishap occured at about 5.45 pm when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve at Kaghot as a result of which the bus fell into a deep gorge. Four persons were killed on the spot, while one succumbed to his injuries in the Udhampur district hospital, the sources added. Four of the dead were identified as Shabil Singh, his wife Darshana Devi, Bishan Dass of Ramain and Aryan (2), son of Uttam Singh, who survived with serious wounds. Identity of the one who died in the hospital was yet to be ascertained. Soon after the bus fell into the gorge, police reached the spot and removed the injured to the sub-district hospital, Ramnagar, with the help of locals.Eleven of the injured were referred to the Udhampur district hospital following deterioration in their condition. One of them later succumbed to his wounds. The condition of the driver was also said to be serious. The bus was badly damaged in the mishap. Police had registered a case in this connection. Sources said Udhampur deputy commissioner Baseer Ahmed Khan and SSP Surinder Gupta also visited the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
