EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 27: The execution of the ongoing development works aimed at improvement of infrastructure for meeting the present and emerging requirements at Katra and enroute the Holy Cave Shrine were jointly reviewed by the Governor, N. N. Vohra, and the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, here this afternoon. The Governor and the Chief Minister emphasized that the projects aimed at strengthening the arrangements for the adequate supply of water and power and improving road connectivity need to be accorded time-bound priority to meet the emerging requirements and called for initiating short, medium and long-term measures for this purpose. They stressed that all the projects must be completed within a fixed time frame. The Governor and the Chief Minister reviewed in detail the progress of the decisions taken in the meeting held at Katra in September 2009. Referring to the need for taking all possible measures to check forest fires in the Shrine area, the Governor stressed for implementing the comprehensive plan formulated for the purpose. He said that besides the creation of fire lines, water bodies should also be created, wherever possible, to control forest fires. Reviewing the progress on the renovation and development of Bhimgarh Fort at Reasi, the Governor underlined the need for completing this project expeditiously. The Governor had visited this ongoing project a few weeks ago. While reviewing the status of Tikri-Katra and Katra-Banganga roads, the Governor called for speedy completion of roads connecting the upcoming Railway Station at Katra, well before the commissioning of the Udhampur-Katra Rail Project. The Governor was informed that the under construction hospital at Katra, estimated to cost more than Rs. 6 crore, is expected to be commissioned in a time frame of 18 months. He asked the Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, Raj Kumar Goyal, to strengthen the medicare facilities at Adhkawari and the Bhawan. The Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the SMVDSB, Raj Kumar Goyal, presented the details of various schemes under execution in the area.
