| Ex-Naib Tehsildar's house gutted | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 28: A devastating fire gutted second storey of the house of a retired Naib Tehsildar in the heart of Kishtwar town this morning. Though property worth lakhs was destroyed in the fire, there was no loss of human life, police sources said. Huge flames, followed by billowing smoke, were seen coming out of the second storey of the house of retired Naib Tehsildar, Tek Chand Bhandari in Kishtwar town at about 10.45 am by his neighbours. Bhandari and his family came to know about the incident only after the neighbours raised an alarm. Soon thereafter, the Bhandari family fled the house to safety. On being informed by locals, fire tenders from the nearby office of the fire services department reached the spot within no time. Sources said while fighting the flames, the firemen also checked inside the rooms to make sure that no one was trapped there. The flames were controlled and fire extinguished in about 30 minutes. Sources said four to five rooms on the second storey were burnt completely as roofs of all of them were made of timber. All the articles, including beds and other items of furniture, lying in the rooms were also gutted, the sources added. Sources said the timely action by the firemen stopped flames from spreading to the nearby houses. Though the exact cause of fire was yet to be ascertained, sources said it could be electric short-circuit. Police had, however, registered a case in this connection and started investigations.
