| Amarnath Yatra to commence from July 1 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 28: The annual Amarnath pilgrimage would be held from July 1 to August 24, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) managing the shrine announced today. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of civil and police officers here jointly chaired by Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board R K Goyal and Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pawan Kotwal. A detailed review of various issues pertaining to smooth conduct of the pilgrimage was done, according to an official release. The CEO of SASB asked officials to ensure better coordination and synergy between various departments and religious and social organisations. Dr. Kotwal stressed on making adequate arrangements well on time. He said that yatra has manifold importance for the state and all efforts will be made for providing amenities to the pilgrims from across the country. Interactions were also held with representatives of religious and social organisations who demanded proper arrangements for lodging and transportation facilities for 'sadhus'. They sought simplification of the registration process and hassle-free entry for the 'langar' (community kitchen) operators. During the meeting arrangements of Shri Budha Amar Nath were also discussed and the concerned departments were directed to ensure that basic amenities are provided to the pilgrims visiting this historical site. IGP Jammu Zone, Ashok Kumar Gupta was also present in the meeting.
