| Rainfall disrupts life in Valley | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Apr 28: Cold weather continued in the Kashmir valley, where rainfall during the past 24 hours affected the normal life as many roads were flooded with rain water, disrupting traffic and pedestrian movements. However, despite heavy rains, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh and 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highways were opened for traffic. Srinagar recorded 6.9 mm rainfall till 0800 hrs and it was still raining. The minimum temperature was today recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal. Many city roads were flooded with rain water, affecting normal traffic and pedestrian movement. The main road of Faizabad colony and Nowgam has also been water logged for the past two weeks because of no drainage system. Several other roads, including Pamposh colony and Budshah Nagar Natipora were also water logged due to faulty drainage system. The highest 27.2 mm rainfall was recorded at Kupwara where the minimum temperature was registered at 9.9 degrees. The world-famous ski tourist resort of Gulmarg was coldest in the region with the minimum being registered at 3.8 degrees after 18.6 mm rainfall. At Leh, the minimum was 8.6 degrees, followed by Kargil at 4.2 degrees and Gulmarg at 3.8 degrees. Pahalgam, the base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir, recorded the minimum at 8.2 degrees, followed by Qazigund at 8.4 degrees, Kokernag at 8.8 degrees and Kupwara at 9.9 degrees. Despite cold due to rainfall, a large number of tourists from plain areas are arriving here daily by road or air.
