| Retd Wing Commander commits suicide | | | JAMMU: A retired Wing Commander last night allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Adh-Kuwari en route to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra town.
Identified as JK Sharma, he hailed from Bhopal.
Police said he checked in a hotel at Adh-Kuwari last night. When he did not come out of his room this morning, hotel staff got suspicious and knocked at the door.
Police said when, despite repeated knocks, he did not respond, the hotel staff broke open the door only to find him lying dead on the bed.
The hotel staff later contacted police which immediately reached the hotel room and evacuated the body to hospital mortuary. Police said the wing commander had consumed poison by mixing it with ice cream, which was recovered from the hotel room and later sent to laboratory for testing.
A suicide note was also recovered from Sharma's possession. According to it, he had held his business partner responsible for provoking him to take this extreme step as he had cheated him in their business venture.
He said he had suffered a loss of Rs 5-6 cr after he was duped by his business partner. Because of the huge loss, he went into depression and took the extreme step, the suicide note said. There was, however, no mention of the nature of business venture run by Sharma with his friend. In the suicide note, Sharma had also expressed the desire to cremate his mortal remains at Katra, police said.
He had come alone to the Vaishno Devi. His family had been informed and the body would be handed over to them tomorrow after legal formalities, police added.
